Respect your Elders!

Look young! Be skinny! Cover your face with anti-wrinkle cream, or even better, your whole body..!
Today's society is obsessed with youth, beauty and success.

Same old.

Whilst the whole world is just waiting for the next 20-something-one-hit-wonder to appear and surprise us for the next couple of weeks with her "oh-so-different"-look, we think that style comes in many different shapes, sizes and ages.

Today's street style blog is dedicated to all those well-dressed elderly people who's sense and taste for style has despite increasing age not been decreasing at all.

Sorapol AW12 Launch - Iron Grip

Last Friday I was invited to Sorapol Chawaphatnakul's showcase of his AW12 Collection "Iron Grip".

The launch was held in "The Old Vic tunnels", a designated graffiti area, down in South London, famous for its appearance in Banksy's film "Exit through the Gift Shop".
Upon entering the damp smelling, raw brick tunnels, which have a dark feel about them, I knew that something impressive is awaiting us behind these raw brick walls.

Tunnel after tunnel became more damp, dark and mysterious, setting the perfect mood for the spectacular collection that was waiting to be presented.

Deep inside the tunnel was the runway, defined by a row of colour changing strip lights, casting strong shadows along the walls.

Whilst everyone was enjoying the free cocktails, I enjoyed the “anything-goes-vibe” that comes along with every show of Sorapol. Even though people may triggered a few heads to turn around, no one was surprised to see a fully crystallized head, a gimp-suit look or a head-to-toe-in-bright (very bright)-Neon-colours-outfit.

Everyone was delighted to see the charming Boy George, who enjoyed all the attention and compliments received, not only thanks to his Brighton orange hat.

The front row did not only include Boy George, also Jodie Harsh was buzzing to see the new collection.

The show started off with smoke creeping down the catwalk and deep war zone sounds rumbling through the tunnel. The flickering lights filled the air with tension and everyone waited ecstatically for the first look. The effects intensified and finally the shadow of the first model appeared on the draping curtain at the beginning of the runway.

With the first model, the music started, slow opera-like sounds blended with intense sounds of explosions and a deep bass.
“Iron Grip” was inspired by the typical Russian opposites,-“beauty and brutality” ,-from frozen Siberia to the excess splendour of St. Petersburg.

The hair, infused with a gold skull, a gas mask or decorated with a Russian helmet, screamed "Russian Revolution".

Sorapol managed to explore a stunning amount of aspects of Russia in this theatrical collection.

There was a strong undeniable influence of the Creative director Daniel Lismore, who is famous for his visionary styling. Together with the head designer, Sorapol Chawaphatnakul they created a sheer spectacle of a performance, one of the most promising and unique collections London has seen for a while!

Sorapol is definitely one to watch!

Streetstyle - All in black

This week I didn't feel like wearing colours.
No pastel-colour found its way in my outfits despite the wonderful happy looking shop-windows everywhere, which consist of all possible colour-combinations.
All in black was my idea, finishing off the look with spikes, studs and blood-red lipstick.
And as it seems, I am not alone with that idea.
Whilst most of the people say good-bye to their grey and dark winter-clothing many fashionistas decide to go for the glamourus and mysterious gothic look this spring.
Like my choice of colours, I keep it simple this week. No more words, just  stree-style photographs, showing how wonderful the all-in-black trend can look.

Get the Creep(er)s!

Creeper shoes are no news for the fashion industry, -these classic Underground styles have been stomping around for decades and have become established footwear for hot roddin rockers and pinball psychobillies everywhere.

Despite the fact that these shoes have been worn already by soldiers in the Second World War, the brothel creepers are mostly associated with the Teddy Boy Culture of the 1950's.

Creepers were well known for coming with a certain look, - draped jackets, drainpipe trousers, bolo ties, quiff and velvet clothing.

With Prada at the forefront of footwear revo lution, Creepers have found their way back on the streets and in our hearts.

Last Fall the catwalks were shaking under the clomping footsteps as designers finished off their looks with the big rubber-soled suede and leather shoes.

.

The creepers have drifted away from their masculine heritage and can now be found in a variety of colours and prints. From summer colours to the edgy graffiti-style version, which have been seen in Ashish's show, creepers can now match any outfit.

Aside from the aesthetic plus sides of owning your own, if you're looking to add a little extra height without the cost of comfort, brothel creepers are without a doubt the shoes for you.

As for me, I step away now (pardon the pun) to romp and stomp through the streets of Brighton with my new Brothel Creepers!

Maria Francesca Pepe: Crosses & Roses

The new Marica Francesca Pepe- collection is to die for.

The flowery-spring atmosphere with the heavy eyeliner and the thick lower lashes give a 60's-flower-child vibe. With a subtle gothic touch thanks to the black crosses and body chains it gives the collection the certain extra that makes my heart beat faster.

The new hair - Trends for 2012

Whilst the majority of viewers have given their attention to the clothes on the catwalks of London Fashion Week, I have been keeping an eye on the upcoming hairstyles for 2012.

In a season defined by minimalism and natural beauty, hairstylists chose easy elegance as a theme for spring-hair.

Whether with the sleek, slicked back style, polished ponytails or the no-fuss centre-parted style, the minimalistic natural look is certainly a winner for spring/summer 2012.

No-fuss centre parting
The easy and practical but pretty hairstyle has been been the choice for many designers this season. Easy but beautiful. Sounds good to me.

Braids, Knots and Plaits

Braids, braids and more braids. They were all over the catwalk this season and many designer's favourite. Whether milkmaid style, fishtails or sleek plaits at the crown, I love them all and can not wait to try them.

The Festival look
Whether adorned with flowers or slightly waved with a simple centre-parting, the festival hair is the perfect finish for the natural beauty-look.

Slicked back
Modern, minimalistic and undeniable cool.
Those must be the reasons, why Giambattista Valli and Roland Mouret were not the only ones going for this look this season.

The neat ponytail

Not quite as high as last season, but still super-straight. The ponytail turned out not to be just a one-season wonder and isn't going anywhere just yet
.

The wet-look

It seemed like the models of Alexander Wang had been caught out by an unexpected shower just before stepping on the catwalk. The wet-look (whether sleeked back or loose and wavy) is a must-have (or at least a must-try) this season.

The Retro look
With all the vintage-fashion trends coming back, it is no surprise, that retro-hair is back in fashion too. This beautiful sleek Sixties-esque style has been seen on the models of the Jil Sander-show.
