Vintage Americana - Trend S/S 2012

"There’s hardly a decade that’s not being pawed and pulled at and picked apart for it’s sartorial gems."

It's fact, that most of the decades of the 20th century have celebrated their revival over the last few years. We saw the glamorous '70s, the swinging '60s, the roaring '20s and the elegant '40s.

Now we can add the '50s to the list and the vintage inspirations are near complete.

Prada has definitely set a hot trend for summer 2012 with their flame-back shoes and cartoon car bags.

Not only Prada has taken their inspiration for this season's collection from the '50s, we have seen many other designers on this year's Paris Fashion Week having the same idea.

The 1920's are back !

They're all coming back. We've seen the 60's, 70's, 80's.. and now it's time for the revival of the "Roaring Twenties".

Although 1920's pieces have briefly appeared on the catwalk over the last few years, 2012 seems to be the right time for the style to take off on a larger scale.
The most recent and major revival of 1920's fashion saw the flapper dress. Flapper dresses typically are loose-fitting dresses with embellishements such as fringing, tassels and beading.

Florals have been one of the favourite fashion themes in spring/summer collections for decades. And 2012 is no exception. Florals come this seasons mainly in light pastels as seen in the outstanding S/S 2012 collection by Ralph Lauren.

Feathered wraps and dresses were very common in the 20's and have been seen in several 2012 runway collections. The light , delicate and airy feel of feathers is more than perfect for the warm seasons.

Also have a look at my previous blog to learn more about the key trends of the 1920's.

Not only clothing from the 20's is coming back, this season it's all about the Bob-Hairstyle, The great Gatsby's, Coco Chanel and Jazz. Especially  accessories from the 20's are going to be big this season, so get out your pearls, feather headbands and vogue-cigarettes and celebrate the return of the 1920's !

2. Metallic toes
Metallic toes are generally used for practical purposes, but designers brought them to another level. Dare to be trendy with those glamorous but distinctive trendy shoes!

4. Transparent shoes
We've seen them already last year on the catwalks, but the transparent shoes seem to become more popular with the approaching season.

5.Bright colored Shoes
Even though pastel colours seem to be the most popular colour choice this season, bright coloured shoes are also appearing in the choice of footwear for the warm seasons.

6.Pointed toes
After several seasons when rounded toes dominated the catwalks, pointed toes are back in fashion.

7. Mega platformsDespite the fact that these Lady Gaga type shoes are not very comfortable or feminine, the designers seem to love them. These shoes are not made for everyone, but combinded properly these shoes look incredibly glamorous.

8. Lacing
Lacing remains in the top list of fashion trends, they make all kinds of feet look good.
But careful, lacing boots are not longer on trends.

9. Braided sandalsFinally you can take your braided sandals out of your wardrobe again, as they are back in fashion. Keep your feet breathing in the favourite sandals trend for 2012.

Christmas spirit

Growing up in Switzerland has allowed me to enjoy many many white Christmases. Having snow on Christmas day is significant for me.

I like it,I want it, I NEED IT!

I need the snow to get the festive spirit. No Christmas song or mince pie has the same effect on me, like a few inches of snow on the streets.

The fact that I haven't seen a single snowflake yet this year has left me in a very confused state of mind. I see the date, I know that there are only 4 days left till Christmas, but I just don't feel like it.

Normally when this happens, I just trick my mind with baking loads and loads of christmas biscuits. The smell of them takes me normally straight into a "oh-my-god-it's-christmas-WHEEEERE-ARE-MY-PRESENTS?"-mood.

Due to a lack of time and money my oven stayed cold this year and there are no star- and tree-shaped biscuits to be found in my kitchen.

So there was only one option left to bring back the Christmas spirit in time:

The perfect Christmas jumper.

So here they are, my saviours of this years Christmas.
Nothing can stop me now from hopping along Western road and singing "Dominic the donkey" (great song!) out loud all day.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
